The future of cities and their spaces lies in the redevelopment of existing housing stock and its associated transformation tasks. The discipline of urban planning needs to reposition itself, andat the intersection of climate change and the mobility revolutionseek to champion the cause of increased participation and greater resilience. How can challenges be overcome in the face of more stringent planning requirements, faster implementation times, and limited resources? Renowned experts from the fields of urban policy, city management, and both practical and academic urban planning discussed the future of cities and urban planning at three symposia hosted by the Professor Albert Speer Foundation. Their arguments encourage us to leave behind established patterns of thinking and approach the tasks of the future with visionary ideas.

Friedbert Greif ist Stadtplaner und Städtebauarchitekt. Seit 1988 ist er bei Albert Speer + Partner beschäftigt, seit 1991 Geschäftsführender Partner der AS+P Albert Speer + Partner GmbH. Zudem ist er Mitglied des Kuratoriums der Prof. Albert Speer-Stiftung. Detlef Kurth ist Stadtplaner und war Projektleiter bei der Planergemeinschaft Hannes Dubach, Urs Kohlbrenner, Berlin. Von 1997 bis 2003 arbeitete er als wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter an der TU Dortmund. Ab 2003 war er Professor für Stadtplanung an der HFT Stuttgart, seit 2017 ist er Inhaber des Lehrstuhls Stadtplanung an der TU Kaiserslautern. Bernd Scholl war u. a. Mitarbeiter von Albert Speer + Partner in Frankfurt. Seit 1987 ist er Mitinhaber vom Planungsbüro Scholl+Signer in Zürich. Ab 1996 war er zunächst Professor an der TU Karlsruhe, von 2006 bis 2018 Professor für Raumentwicklung an der ETH Zürich. Er ist Vorstandsmitglied der Prof. Albert Speer- Stiftung.
