The fourth edition of Schools of Departure is devoted to the use of technology in post-Bauhaus design education: in the second half of the twentieth century, universities and research institutions were swept by a wave of cybernetisation, as the belief in the triad of knowledge, technology, and progress surfaced again undaunted. The relationship between design education and technology in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries is reflected in the different ways that designers and architects have conceptualized machinesand their relationship to them.
