The focus is on the end of the librarians employment and the previous tensions between intellectuals and rulers. A particular feature of the book is its combination of authentic quotations with the authors own fictional additions. The book depicts famous figures from literary and philosophical history as hardly anyone knows them,and gives insights into cultural and historical developments in their different eras.
