Beschreibung
Douglass Cecil North is one of the leading social scientists of the 20th century. In 1993, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics, along with Robert William Fogel. The approach taken by North focuses on the analysis of the change in social structures. His analyses center on the influence of formal and informal institutions on economic development. This volume reconstructs the methodological perspective and the insights contained in his entire work. The key question is: How does Douglass C. North's approach from the perspective of economic history contribute to a better understanding and to a configuration of the institutional system of democratic market economies and what are the conclusions that can be drawn from this in relation to development policies?
