Investment on creation of irrigation facilities has resulted in self sufficiency in food grain production at the other hand over or unscientific ways of irrigation has led to development of saline lands, swamps as well as marshy lands leading to environmental degradation and loss of diversity of the irrigated ecosystems. To come out with these problems Government of India has also stated some of the programmes related to restoration of these fragile irrigated ecosystems. In this report an effort was made to evaluate such restoration programmes implemented by Bhadra Command Area Development Authority.This book will serve as a reference material for the policy makers as well as students and other scientific community involved in development activities.

Dr.S.Sridhara is Associate Professor of Agronomy, University of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences, Shimoga-577225. He focused on developing various agronomic practices to help the farmers to realize higher yields. He has a special interest in application of,crop models and weather forecasting systems and evaluation of development programmes.
