Public healthcare generally refers to government funded health-care services available to all members of the population. It is a cost-effective health care system that supports the health care needs of a community or population funded directly by the government. The Public healthcare system in India comprises a set of state-owned health care facilities funded and controlled by the government of India. Some of these are controlled by agencies of the central government while others are controlled by the State governments. The Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW) facilitates the public healthcare systems overall functioning by supporting the state and local levels which are more directly involved in healthcare service activities. The main objective of MoHFW at the national level is to facilitate effective and efficient administration by the states and the local health authorities. Indias public healthcare system follows centralized planning and policy making along with decentralized implementation. At the national level, the govt. persuades the states to work towards specific health objective and priorities. It also provides the necessary technical support for this.
