The purpose of this book was to identify the prevailing farming systems in Assam across the agro-ecological situations. Emphasis has been given to homestead area and allied activities included under the homestead area. Usually the animal component, fishery and fruits and vegetables are confined in the homestead farming. The allied activities taken up by the farmers in their system are also confined in homestead areas. Attempts have been made to know the working capital investment, employment generated and net profit realized for each of the components of the farming system across the zones and size categories of farms. It is assumed the information provided in this book will be useful to policy makers, extension personnel and field functionaries who usually works for farmers.

Dr.Bhowmick an eminent Agricultural Economist worked as Chair Professor, Comptroller, Registrar, Director of Extension, Vice Chancellor (Acting). Dr.Bhowmick had a brilliant academic career.His area of interest is Agricultural development, risk analysis and management, project planning and analysis, farming system and operational research.
