Bamboo deforestation has been adversely affecting the livelihoods of the local communities in Benishangul Gumuz region. The present study identifies the driving forces behind bamboo deforestation in the region. The study employed various advanced econometric model and GIS techniques. The result revealed that the bamboo forest has been declining at alarming rate. The study has suggested collective action and property rights in overcoming the problem.

Dr. Semeneh Bessie was born in Bulen woreda of Benishangul Gumuz Region. He obtained MA Degree in Development Studies from Addis Ababa University and his PhD in Agri-Economics at Haramaya University. He published more than 20 articles in reputable journals. He teaches PhD and MA students in Ethiopian universities and advised more than 30 students.
