The continuous increase of prices of agricultural inputs have negatively affected the economic feasibility of agricultural activity in rural areas in the south, pushing peasants to quit their lands and migrate to big cities or abroad. Therefore, the necessity emerges to transcend the cash crop model of perception of the agricultural resource. In this book the new vision of whole resource use is illustrated giving different examples. An integrated approach is suggested for the industrialization of the rural areas to realize the objective of endogenous sustainable development, as well as a high added value along the value chain, from the field to the market, including the selection of industrial projects, their spatial distribution and appropriate technology. Examples of executed and suggested projects are given. This book is written for academics and practitioners working in the field of rural development, as well as NGOs and donor institutions, operating in rural areas. It is also written for scholars and researchers in the fields of agricultural science and microeconomics.
Autorenporträt
Hamed EL-Mously studied mechanical engineering (production) and obtained his Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering. He led several projects, devoted to the endogenous development of rural communities relying on renewable material resources as material base. He occupies the position of a professor, as well as the chairman of an NGO, located in Cairo, Egypt.
