Judicial procedure is commonly perceived as being too lengthy and costly, while the quality of the outcomes has been described as unsatisfactory. Hence, this volume is dedicated to the economic analysis of procedural law.The contributions concern, on the one hand, such fundamental issues as the costs and benefits of the judicial system as compared to alternative dispute resolution mechanisms. On the other hand, they focus on more specific aspects of procedural law, such as the role of the attorney, the effects of the age structure of judges on productivity and the quality of their decisions, and the issues of the right to appeal and the efficient standard of proof.
