Zambia's criminal justice system is under immense strain and degenerating to the lowest levels in its over 50 years' history. The Judiciary, Police and Correctional services all need serious reform for the entire criminal justice system to attain required constitutional and international standards. This treatise by one of Zambia's upcoming criminologists, lawyer and academic tries to shed light on various blights in the criminal justice system as well as provide likely remedies to cure the same.

Joseph Chirwa is a practicing lawyer, academician, criminologist and labor practitioner with experience in both public and private sector. He is currently a lecturer of law at the School of Law of the University of Lusaka where he teaches criminal law, law of torts and local government law.
