The Handbook of Public Policy in Europe provides an invaluable overview of the content of public policy across the full range of policy areas in Britain, France and Germany. It is designed to be used by students, experts and practitioners both to help compare public policy across different policy areas and countries and as a source of information on individual policy areas. Each chapter describes the nature of public policy in a particular area, makes detailed comparisons of selected aspects and outlines recent developments. Detailed Internet references are also provided.

HUGH COMPSTON is Senior Lecturer and Director of Politics in the School of European Studies, Cardiff University, and Convenor of the Standing Group on Comparative Political Economy of the European Consortium for Political Research. His major publications include Beyond Corporatism: A Configurational Theory of Policy Concentration, in European Journal of Political Research 42(6), October 2003; Social Partnership in the 1990s: The West European Experience in Historical Perspective (edited with Stefan Berger, 2002); and The New Politics of Unemployment: Radical Policy Initiatives in Western Europe (editor, 1996).
