They had an outrageous reputation and were scornfully called Malweiber. In the German empery it was highly disreputable for women to have the goal of becoming a professional artist. While they were allowed to be creative in their own homes, women were not admitted to art universities. However, for all those who still wanted to pursue their dreams, there was a new shining destination around 1900: Paris.
