The paintings of Goran Djurovi? (* 1952 in Belgrade) are Kammerspiele-scenes set in an enclosed space. Using traditional techniques in a free way, his compositions explore perennial issues of human existence. Djurovi?'s characters seldom assume an active role; they observe and register what happens. The painter's richly textured universe is all about looking. "I'm interested in human bankruptcy, in failure. We all side with the losers," says the painter, "and being aware of that is both sad and beautiful." Goran Djurovi? studied painting in Dresden, and lives and works in Berlin.
