Protection of consumers interest is one of the key objectives described in the preamble of the Indian Electricity Act, 2003. The Act provides protection to consumers with reference to standards of performance. If a licensee fails to meet the specified standards then disregarding any penalty that may be imposed or prosecution pronounced, the regulatory commissions will have powers to impose appropriate compensation to be paid to the affected person within the time limit. There is little published work on Law relating to Electricity available. This book will therefore be of interest to lawyers, economists and policy makers in general, and not just in the procurement field. More specifically, it is hoped that the results will bring new changes in Electricity sector for settling disputes and in protection of consumer rights. The findings will also have implications for the design of enforcement systems under other international arrangements. It is hoped that this book will be useful to students, researchers, academicians and members of the legal fraternity. This book is an attempt to explore various Electricity Acts, Regulations regarding consumer protection.

An Alumnus of National Law School,Bhopal(A Premier Law School),Mr. Manish Yadav, is presently working as Assistant Professor (Law) at Amity University, Uttar Pradesh. Before joining academia,he was serving (2009-2012) as Consumer Advocacy Officer& Registrar to Electricity Ombudsman in Madhya Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission, Bhopal, India.
