Freedom of speech means the right to express one's own convictions and opinions freely by words of mouth, writing, printing, pictures or any other mode. It allows people to freely participate in the social and political affairs of their country. The essence of free speech is the ability to think and speak freely and to obtain information from others through publications and public discourse without fear of retribution, restriction, or repression by the government. It is through free speech, people could come together to achieve political influence, to strengthen their morality, and to help others to become moral and enlightened citizens. The underlying principle of freedom of expression is right to know. Freedom of speech has been guaranteed by our Constitution under Article 19(1) (a). This right is available only to a citizen of India and not to foreign nationals. Media Laws also known as Communication Laws form an important part of Mass Communication. With Media taking over our World, it becomes very important for us to understand the laws related to Media. This book majorly focuses on Print & Electronic Media Laws which are presented in an easy to understand language.
