Geriatric dentistry is an evolving discipline. It includes the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of dental diseases and other oral mucosal disorders in the elderly. As patients live longer and retain their natural dentition, treatment strategies need to address not only the problem itself but also the patients ability to function. Furthermore the relationship of oral manifestations of aging to overall systemic health is crucial to maintain the continuity between oral health and overall health. This book provides an understanding of the concepts of aging, describing the changes aging brings to the human body and the oral cavity. It enlightens us regarding various strategies to improve geriatric health and the role of oral health in promoting the quality of life for older individuals.
