Citizenship education motivates and inspires young people, because it is related with their daily lives and needs. Citizenship education can also cause some positive changes in young peoples behaviors, habits, attitudes. The level of engaging the antisocial behavior is very low among the young people who had citizenship education in their schools. It can play an important role to minimize some school-life problems such as bullying. Moreover, the percentage of participating in the formal and informal institutions of society is very high. Citizenship education is also important for multicultural societies. It strengthens the relationship among the people with different cultures living in the same society. Individuals know their rights and responsibilities and learn to live together. So intercultural education is a part of citizenship education in multicultural societies.

He graduated from Faculty of Education at Middle East Technical University. Salgür had his masters' degree in Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences at University of Bucharest and completed his PhD in Sociology Faculty of the same university. He has many years of experience as an international teacher, mentor, academician and administrator.
