Beschreibung
The world is presently confronted with the twin crisis of fossil fuel depletion and environmental degradation. Indiscriminate and lavish consumption of fossil fuels have led to reduction in underground carbon-based resources. The need to exploit bio origin-based alternative fuels to quench the world's energy thirst has long been realized. Increased environmental awareness and depletion of resources are driving industry to develop viable alternative fuels from renewable resources that are environmentally more acceptable. Rice bran oil is a potential alternative fuel. The most detrimental properties of rice bran oils are its high viscosity and low volatility, and these cause several problems during their long duration usage in compression ignition engines. The most commonly used method to make rice bran oil suitable for use in CI engines is to convert it into biodiesel. Rice bran oil is an underutilized non-edible vegetable oil, which is available in large quantities in rice cultivating countries, very little research has been done to utilize this oil as a replacement for mineral diesel.
