Beschreibung

Reverse Osmosis (RO) has been successfully applied around the world for water treatment and wastewater reuse applications. However, RO is a physical separation process, and besides the clean water stream (permeate) a reverse osmosis concentrate (ROC or Retentate) is produced, usually representing 15-25 % of the feed water flow and containing the organic and inorganic contaminants at higher concentrations. This ROC or Retentate is having high constituents of recalcitrant organics, TAN (total ammonia nitrogen), DOC (dissolved oxygen carbon) and COD (chemical oxygen demand) value. Electrolysis treatment of Retentate generated during Reverse Osmosis process on Stainless Steel electrodes is carried, focusing on the reduction of TDS, COD reduction, volatile and fixed solid matter removal, with system variables as current density and specific charge. FTIR spectra are taken after electrolysis treatment on various current densities to confirm organic matter removal.Electrolysis treatment promises to be an efficient method in removing organic matters from wastewater.
