Electric machine is a general term for three different types of machines. These include: Electric motors, Electric generators and transformers. The action of all forms of Electromagnetic machines is based on two fundamental laws: Faradays law, which states that, whenever there is relative motion between the magnetic field and a coil situated in that field, then, there will be an e.m.f. induced in that coil, whose magnitude is equal to the time rate of change of flux linkage between the field and the coil.The second law is based on an observation by Maxwell who states that if a current-carrying conductor is placed in a magnetic field, a force will be exerted and relative motion will take place between the structure carrying the conductor and the structure carrying the field.
