Beschreibung
A cluster-fractal model of silicate melt structure is proposed. Plutonic and volcanic melts have great mobility due to their high temperature and low viscosity. The melt exists in a wide range of temperatures. In the liquidus-subliquidus range, it is macrohomogeneous and formed by volumes of clusters of close chemical composition and structure. Within these volumes, minerals nucleation and growth occur. The melt and crystals are characterized by a metastable state. They are stable only under fixed RT conditions.

R. N. Sobolev is in 1952 afgestudeerd aan de Lomonosov Staatsuniversiteit van Moskou, hoogleraar Petrologie, Doctor in de Geologische en Mineralogische Wetenschappen. Hij doceerde petrologie en petrochemie aan de geologische faculteit van de Moskouse Staatsuniversiteit en aan universiteiten in een aantal landen. Auteur van 12 monografieën en leerboeken. Momenteel ontwikkelt hij een liquatiemodel voor de vorming van ertsafzettingen.
