Protected areas remain the most important approach for maintaining and enhancing the conservation of biological diversity and ecosystem services. Despite considerable progress made to meet Aichi Target 11, the worlds biodiversity continues to decline. It is the time to shift our focus of protected area targets from quantity to quality. This book offers insights on the conservation effectiveness monitoring and evaluation programs of protected areas by comparing cases worldwide, with particular reference to the Conservation Effectiveness Monitoring Program in Australian Capital Territory.

Dr. Di Zhang is a young researcher in conservation biology. Her research interest is the adaptive management and conservation outcomes evaluation of protected areas. She has worked on projects addressed to protected areas biodiversity conservation.
