Beschreibung

To what extent can man discern the profound and god-like mysteries of the universe? What is the plight of man in the cosmos? What makes life meaningful? What is the role and relevance of religion in mans life? What is the recipe of happiness? These and other similar questions are analyzed and answered in this book with special reference to the plays of the American dramatist and Nobel Laureate, Eugene ONeill and his ideas are compared with those of great scientists like Albert Einstein and philosophers like Bertrand Russell and those ideas of mysticism and eastern philosophy especially Taoism. This enlightening book upholds love and knowledge as the only urge that keeps up mans zest for living and discloses that it is the value of love and human comradeship which helps him to get over the feeling of his being an exile on an inhospitable shore like this earth. It can teach, inspire, enlighten, entertain, and elevate the readers and help them to escape from solitude. This book is a worthy contribution to ONeill scholarship and will be of great help to the post graduate students of English literature and worth reading to any reflective reader interested in the meaning of life.
