The Hungry Tide and Animal's People are two literary texts where recent historical events reverberate through their content. How the authors Amitav Ghosh and Indra Sinha represent them forms a very fascinating area of study. The impact of that particular historical context on common men and women is a major theme in these novels. Both Ghosh and Sinha have drawn their sources for writing from newspapers and journals. They use journalistic jargon and employ a number of journalistic techniques in their novels. They almost create the impression that they are writing pieces of solid investigative journalism with a touch of individualism. The two texts can been considered as fictional archives which contain a lot of information regarding the people, places and things on which they are based.
