Beschreibung

The libretto and music revolve around a self-sacrificing main character, and it is quite probable that the courageous bearing of Empress Maria Theresia while mourning her husband who had died in 1765 provided Gluck with the impetus for working on this old-fashioned material. Alceste demonstrated the virtues typical of the 18th century, being like Beethoven's subsequent Fidelio purely an anthem to conjugal love. As Orfeo before it, Alceste did not achieve major success at the first performance of the Vienna version, which took place at the Vienna Burgtheater on 26 December 1767, but instead became famous nine years later in Paris where it was performed as a tragédie opéra after the addition of ballet music in French (opera text by Marie-François-Louis Grand-Leblanc du Roullet). This production from 2006 was acclaimed as the Opera Production of the Year, by the German magazine OPERNWELT. The title roll is given by Catherine Naglestad, who became the Female Opera Singer of the Year 2006. 807280125597LangtextThis new production of Karl Amadeus Hartmanns opera Simplicius Simplicissimus at the Staatsoper Stuttgart is performed in its first chamber-music version. A symphonic version, which Hartmann composed in the 50ies, superseded the chamber-music version. Because of its scantiness and abruptness and also its huge intimate score, Christof Nel decided to bring this chamber-music version on stage. 807280037593LangtextFollowing the release of Bamboo Dream featuring the music of Arvo Pärt, celebrated choreographer Lin Hwaimin has selected compositions from suits for solo cello by Johann Sebastian Bach, combining his music with movements derived from Chinese martial arts of Tai Chi. During the breathtaking performance, water sweeps across the stage and is flicked in arcs from the dancers' moving arms and feet. the sound of splashing water mingles with Bach's music as the dancers throw themselves on the stage, gliding on the fine film of liquid. An aesthetically scintillating performance with remarkable studio production. Desribed by the Times as "Asia leading contemporary dance theatre", Cloud Gate's repertoire has its roots firmly in the myths, folklore and aesthetics of the East. "Energy flows as water, while the spirit shines as the moon": this description of the ideal state for a Thai Chi practioner was one of the starting points for this astonishing production.
