Here are presented the scholarly papers from the 2015 Sophia Institute International Conference on Eastern Orthodox Christian Art and Culture. Theologians, Art-historians,musicologists, liturgists and iconographic practitioners,collaborate in this volume to present a dynamic and holistic view of the Sacred Arts of the Orthodox Church. A majority of studies relate to ecclesiastical Iconography, ancient and modern, but the 'sacred arts' of rhetoric, hagiography, education and music are also expertly treated. John Anthony McGuckin is the Nielsen Professor of Early Church History at Union Theological Seminary, and Professor of Byzantine Christian Studies at Columbia University in New York. An Arch-priest of the Romanian Orthodox Church,he is one of the world's leading interpreters of Early Christian Studies and Orthodox Church culture.
