Beschreibung
In the Johannine theology there are two prominent motifs: the notion of God "the Father" in contrast with "the Son", and the idea that the believers are God's children (John 1:12). But strikingly the notion of God as the father of the disciples is phrased not before John 20:17, in the context of the Easter appearances. In the present study Frances Back aims at determining the meaning and relevance of the Johannine motif of God as father of the believers by an analysis of the passages of the Farewell Discourses where the relationship between the disciples and God is discussed in the context of Jesus' impending death, and by a thorough exegesis of the relevant parts of the Johannine Easter narrative.
