A two-theory based study about Zora Neale Hurston's novel "Their Eyes were watching God". The analysis emphasizes the feminist and the psychoanalytic features that shaped the life of the Novel's protagonist 'Janie Crawford', by considering the social circumstances of the early twentieth century. The analysis investigates the steps of the protagonist's growing up through a feminist and psychoanalytic lens.

Hurston wrote "Their Eyes Were Watching God" to inspire millions of women around the world regardless to their different races and skin colors to resist and fight for their own desires. This work analyzes the struggle of the black woman to proclaim her identity.
