The text is a fundamental reading in Ethics and Social Philosophy. This focus is further delineated by narrowing down to marriage and family from a philosophical perspective. The first is problem of domestic violence. In discussing this challenge, the author takes care to note that there are forms of violence in the domestic domain and it is not only male violence against women in the home that is the case as feminist discourses today wants to emphasize. Homosexuality is yet another challenge which the author identifies. In using this term, he uses it as a term which also captures lesbianism. The text also focuses on divorce as a problem of marriage in modern times. Reproductive health is yet another problem which the author identifies. All of these challenges are itemized so that troubled marriages can recognize the category to which they belong and also to aid them in the exact area in which to seek help. The question of what help to give becomes the focus of the last chapter. In this chapter, the author places a lot of importance on marriage counseling and a lot responsibility on marriage counselors.
