So. are you trying to use literature in the classroom? One of the biggest challenges we EFL teachers face is getting our students to read. Generally, they dont want to, especially when they have to read the classics. I tell them how important the classics are for linguistic, historical, and cultural reasons. With few exceptions, they are not interested. What would happen, I wondered, If they were reading something they liked? I decided to find out. I used science fiction stories with my eighth-grade class at Colegio Manuel Antonio Matta, a subsidized school in Chile. For four sessions we used excerpts from science fiction texts along with audiovisual materials. This book discusses the results of that intervention.
