This book is written for student-teachers, practicing school teachers as well as headteachers. The book is divided into fourteen chapters and addresses themes relating to the ways educational institutions are managed for efficiency and effectiveness. The book therefore discusses basic elements of School Management including the evolution of management theories, the responsibilities of headteachers, and the roles and skills of headteachers, different leadership styles and theories of leadership are also discussed. Power, authority and responsibility of leadership are examined. Other important topics discussed in this book include the important subject of communication in schools, school discipline, school finances, school records, school decision making, motivation in schools, and school inspection and supervision. This book is thus written for wider readership and it is hoped that the book will be a valuable resource for understanding the principles and practices of contemporary school management.

Cyprian Gandeebo is a lecturer at Marist International University College (MIUC). He holds a B.Ed from MIUC, M.Ed in Educational Planning, Policy & Management from the University of Witwatersrand and PhD in Educational Administration & Planning from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa.
