Famed for his romantic wildness and massively popular in his day, Ferdinand Ries composed the 5 Grand Trio in f minor towards the end of his life. A mature and substantial piano trio, it stands alongside and equals any of those by his former piano teacher, Beethoven. A serene and expansive work in four movements from a master of the form, it is quite possibly the last of nine that he wrote. Ferdinand Ries, berühmt für seine romantische Wildheit und zu seiner Zeit außerordentlich populär, komponierte das 5. Grand Trio in f-Moll gegen Ende seines Lebens. Als reifes und reichhaltiges Klaviertrio steht es ebenbürtig neben denen seines früheren Klavierlehrers, Beethoven. Ein ernstes und umfangreiches Werk in vier Sätzen von einem Meister der Form, und wahrscheinlich das letzte, das er schrieb.
