The main goal is to make the player aware of his finger's movements, especially in the third octave where the fingerings are complicated and are not easily automated by the brain. Every flutist knows the phenomenon when quick passages suddenly appear as black lines. Epstein wants to enlighten these black lines and has therfor edeveloped special pratising techniques.
