Beschreibung
Rupprecht Geiger (1908-2009) is considered one of the most important representatives of color field painting in Europe. An innovative artist ahead of his time, Geiger shaped the art of the second half of the 20th century. By radically reducing the color to simple geometric forms, Geiger focused on the effect of pure color in a way that no one had before. He was one of the first artists to work with chemically produced daylight fluorescent pigments. Geigers public art continues to influence the appearance of many cities and public buildings to this day. This publication showcases the versatility and evolution of Geigers work, featuring pieces from all phases of his career. Colorful landscapes, cityscapes, and still lifes from the artists early work show his figurative beginnings, while the characteristic radiant color modulations of his later years convey Geigers iconic visual language.
