The last volume of the MUSA collection of contemporary art is dedicated to the 1990s. The boundaries and hierarchies between the genres of high and popular art have long disappeared; drawing and painting is tied up with punk; digital photography and computer art - especially video and the recording of the artists own performance approaches in parallel to painting or object art - pursue broad communication strategies; video sculptures, conceptual artistic research, and the integration of kitsch and irony display great diversity; artistic strategies are extended to include social issues such as the transgender debate and post-colonial investigations. Essays by well-known authors and numerous illustrations shed light on the artistic trends of this decade.
