Life-size full-body figures that reject any kind of imitation of human existence are the quintessence of Walter Moroder's oeuvre. The limitation of their physical existence to standing, waiting, crouching, and silence condenses into an existential wholeness of their identity with a discreet life of their own in the here and now. These are human-like figures with striking experiences of presence and absence and an affinity for classical sculpture. This monograph offers a comprehensive overview of works from over thirty years, located in public and private settings. The structure in 16 chapters, accompanied by mostly full-page illustrations of the works, brings to life the specific and unique aspects of this work and illuminates overarching aspects of the aesthetic experience. The book design and the photographic images contribute significantly to this. Walter Moroder (*1963) lives and works in Ortisei in Val Gardena (Italy).
