The monograph Cycles by Ernest A. Kienzl brings together, for the first time, key series of works spanning several decades, offering a compelling insight into the consistency and evolution of his artistic practice. Structured as a journey through time, the publication moves in yearly steps from 2016 back to Kienzls artistic beginnings in 1968, presenting seminal works for each year. In the illustrated section, selected highlights then guide the reader chronologically forward again, returning to the artists most recent production. Essays by Carl Aigner, Hartwig Knack, Lisa Ortner-Kreil, and Thomas Pulle provide diverse theoretical perspectives on the individual cycles and position Kienzls oeuvre within contemporary artistic discourse. Biographical notes, a comprehensive list of exhibitions and participations, as well as documentation of Kienzls work as a curator, complete the publication. Generously illustrated with 289 color plates and supplemented by black-and-white reproductions, the volume offers an extensive overview of Kienzls artistic output to date.
