About the authors: Both authors are academics as well as professional landscape architects and have personal attachment to the kibbutz by family members, relatives and friends. Shmuel Burmil holds degrees in Biology and Landscape Architecture, and a Ph.D. in Renewable Natural Resources from the University of Arizona in Tucson. He was a senior lecturer on the faculty of Architecture, the landscape architecture program at the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa, and Associate Professor on the Faculty of Planning and Landscape Architecture at Clemson University in South Carolina. His research and publications include topics such as historic landscapes and gardens, sustainable development and water, landscape and the information society. Ruth Enis graduated as Dipl.Eng. Architect in 1953 and in 1956 got a Master degree in Architecture and Town Planning, both at the Technion, Haifa. In 1959 received in Wageningen/The Netherlands a diploma as Landscape Architect. She taught garden and landscape architecture since 1969 at the Technion-Haifa until she retired as associate professor in 1997. Between 1974 and 1996 she worked temporarily as a visiting professor at the Graduate School of Design in Harvard (U.S.A.), at The Royal Danish Academy of Art in Copenhagen (Denmark), at the State Polytechnic University in Pomona (Calif., U.S.A.), at the University of Arizona in Tucson (U.S.A.), at the University of Oregon in Eugene (U.S.A.) and the University of Agriculture in Norway. Besides her practical work as a landscape architect - mainly in Israel and in the Netherlands - she published many research projects, chapters in books and articles on landscape architecture and gardens in Israel.
