Since 1971 the South Asian Archaeology Conference has established itself as an important biannual forum of international research regarding archaeology and art history of South Asia. The published results of the 1991 conference in Berlin presents 52 papers on various subjects. It is profusely illustrated with hundreds of photographs, drawings and tables. Among the contributors are such well-known scholars as H. Bakker, G. Bhattacharya, M. L. Carter, E. C. L. During Caspers, D. J. Ehnbom, M. Jansen, J.-F. Jarrige, M. C. Joshi, K. Karttunen, D. Klimburg-Salter, K. R. van Kooij, J. M. Kenoye, G. L. Possehl, V. Sarianidi, M. Taddei, N. Vinogradova - to name only a few.
