Northeast region of India geo-politically shares a long frontier with foreign nations. This frontier region has experienced considerable population movement from different directions and times. The existence of numerous passes in the hills of Northeast India is clear evidence that there existed strong socio-cultural and economic ties between Northeast India and the neighbouring countries. Through these land routes, people of all kinds, ranging from travelers and invaders to traders and adventurers, entered the region. This book is a result of the study on road, its history- which was developed from wild natural hill tracks to a motorable military supply line in passage of time. Within this passage of time peoples relation with this road was interweave. This road is the living legend of centurys long interaction with West and East, named as Ledo-Burma Road, in early time, and later it was renamed as Stilwell Road. The road is not only connects two places. It bears culture from one place to another. The book is important to highlight the importance of the communication channel in Northeast India with Burma and China and strategic, socio-economic, military and cartographic position

Dr.Tarun Dutta, Astt Prof, Dept of History, Assam University DC was born in Dhakuakhana, Assam, India and completed Post Graduation from Dibrugarh University in History and obtain M. Phil and Ph.D degree from Assam University. He is a recipient of ICHR-JRF, ICSSR-Study Grant and UGC-AUS Fellowship. He is a life fellow of IASS, NEIHA, NEICSSR, KAS.
