In every creation by a Cheyenne artisan the knowledge and care given to the finished object is perceived as a sacred act. Whether a beaded moccasin, belt, design on a leather bag, shawl, painting or poem. The designs are endowed with metaphysical and mythological reference. When these items are sold to non-Cheyennes there is always something in the design omitted. It is called the missing bead.

Lance Henson is a member of the Cheyenne nation of Oklahoma, an ex-marine, member of the dog soldier clan, a warrior society within his tribe, member of the Native American church and the American Indian movement. He holds a masters degree from Tulsa University, an author of 38 books of poetry translated into 25 languages.
