Over two thousand years ago, cultural and commercial interchanges between China and Ceylon (Sri Lanka) were existed immensely. Sri Lanka was among the first countries to recognize the Peoples Republic of China. It is the landmark of the relationships between Sri Lanka and China in the modern era too. And the commencement and signing of the Rubber-Rice Pact in 1952, which was a bold move by this country which was almost beholden to the Western nations till then. In the post-colonial policies, but made a major departure in ignoring the sanctions that the West, particularly the USA, had imposed on trade with Communist China. This book focused to examine the national and international impact of China-Ceylon Rubber Rice Pact in 1952.

Wijayantha Ukwatta, Senior Lecturer in Sri Lanka Foundation. He is a PhD Candidate in Wuhan University, China. He obtained MA in International Politics from Peking University, China and BA in History first Class Hons from Sri Jayawardenepura University, Sri Lanka.Mr Ukwatta's current research focuses are History, social and cultural relationships.
