Deforestation is the permanent destruction of forests in order to make the land available for other uses. It is considered to be one of the contributing factors to global climate change. Trees absorb greenhouse gases and carbon emissions. They produce oxygen and perpetuate the water cycle by releasing water vapor in the atmosphere. This book constitutes a study on deforestation in various countries. Causes of deforestation, effects and government effort for checking are also included in this book.

Sukanta Sarkar has done M.Sc (Economics) from Tripura University and Ph.D in 2013. He qualified the National Eligibility Test (NET) in December 2006. He presented many research papers in various seminars, conferences and symposiums. At present, he is working as Lecturer, ICFAI University, Agartala, Tripura, India.
