The elections to the European Parliament 2014 were overshadowed in Great Britain by a discussion about a possible British exit from the EU. This discussion is nothing new in Britain where critical attitudes towards Europe have long been a part of different narratives of British national identity. This book explores the multitude of British identities, how they delevoped over time and in different parts of the United Kingdom, and were subsequently used in the context of the European Parliament elections. Five of the most important British parties and their campaign material are being scrutinised to see how they construct British national identity and utilise these narratives in their election campaigns.
Autorenporträt
Imke Grassl studied English, History, and Education for Secondary Schools at the Technischen Universität Dresden graduating in 2014 with a Master of Education. Focusing on British Cultural Studies, she developed a special interest in British identity construction.
