Beschreibung

This is a contributory work towards establishing the early human settlement in Igboland; Eastern Nigeria. This work was aimed at providing further evidences in establishing the inter-site relationship between the selected archaeological sites in the old Nsukka Division (Onyohor, Ekwegbe and Obimo) with a view to reconstructing the cultural/settlement history of the areas. The specific objectives of the study were to; excavate and study the archaeological and ethnographic sites in the old Nsukka division with emphasis on Onyohor, Ekwegbe and Obimo and see how they can contribute to the study of the cultural history of the areas. Furthermore, to analyze the cultural materials excavated and from the findings establish if there is any cultural continuity or otherwise between the past and present inhabitants of the study areas by comparing the excavated materials with that used by the extant communities. To achieve the above set objectives, an ethnoarchaeological approach was applied. The above evidences show that early human settlement in Igboland started from Northern Igbo plateau (Nsukka area) and spread southwards to Nri-Akwa axis.
