Redewaan Dollie was born in Cape Town, South Africa in 1946 to Muslim parents, Cassiem and Fatima Dollie. After completing a B.A. degree through the University of South Africa, he started his teaching career at Oaklands High School in 1970. Redewaan obtained the Bachelor of Education Degree at the University of Cape Town in 1983. In 1974 he married Rachmat Hartley. They have a daughter, Feryal (41), and two sons, Mish'al (35) and Amir (31). In 2011 Redewaan retired from the principalship of Oaklands and is currently staying in Kenwyn, a suburb of Cape Town.
